Founder of First Responders, a non-government organisation (NGO) based in Pacific Harbour, enjoys travelling to new places and sailing.
Sarah Conrad, through her NGO, has helped 2000 people till date by donating cooked food.
She is of German and Fijian ancestry.
“I lived for 11 years in Dubai and I am now based in London,” she said.
“I am currently admitted to the legal Bar Practice Course in London (a requirement after graduation) in order to be named and practice as a barrister in London.
“I specialise in International Law and Human Rights,” she said.
What are some of your hobbies?
I have a not so secret love affair with books and reading.
As we speak, most of my books are on the laws but when I do have some spare time, I enjoy non-fiction books.
It is said that books are the quietest and most constant of friends, they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. I find this to be true in fact. I also love sailing.
One of the beauties of living in Fiji is the fact that there are over 300 islands to explore.
The picture-perfect tropical islands framed with palm trees, the crystal clear azure waters lapping along white sand beaches and blue skies and the occasional spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins playfully surfing the waves created by the yacht are all so surreal, you almost have to pinch yourself to make sure it’s real.
It truly is a paradise on earth.
Being out on the water automatically puts you in a good mood, the calmness of the water, the splashing sound of the waves.
The rhythmic movement of the yacht and the soft flapping of the sail in the wind are all known to affect brainwaves resulting in a more relaxed and happy mood.
Naturally, some of my fondest memories are the hours my dad and I spent sailing.
I’m blessed to have a dad that taught me to sail and how to tie all the different types of sailing knots.
What makes sailing so special to me is the spirit of adventure involved, the connection you get to make with nature and it is one the best forms of family bonding.
It’s primal, spiritual even, just being out there with the waves and your loved ones!
Travelling is another hobby.
I am fortunate to have visited 37 countries to date and many of them multiple times.
What is the one place in Fiji you would take every visitor to, and why?
Sailing to Malolo Island is definitely one of my favourite getaways.
Malolo is the largest island in the Mamanuca group and it conveniently located close to Nadi (one hour boat ride or 2.5 hours slow sailing).
It is also a very welcoming island.
Plus Malolo Island Resort is 100 per cent owned by local Fijians.
This ensures that there isn’t any tourism leakage (something developing countries struggle with) and the money you spend stays within and contributes to the local community and the Fijian economy.

Coffee Hub is located in the Essence Of Fiji building, next to Mobil service station, Nadi Back Road. The cafe and lounge is operated by the well known Barista “Zoro”. It has easy parking and amazing coffee.
What is your favourite place for a pie/coffee in Fiji, and why?
The Coffee Hub along Nadi Back Road.
The place is quite trendy, air conditioned and clean, serving some of the best coffees around.
Reminds me of the quality and standard we see overseas.
The owner/manager “Zoro” is also a genuinely nice person.
What is your favourite backyard spot, and why?
It would have to be the beach at Sunset Strip, Korotogo.
Right in front of our family home is a seawall with steps.
The best place to chill with friends and catch the sunset.

What is the one spot in Fiji on the top of your bucket list?
I fell in love with Taveuni on my last visit there and it’s where I see myself settling someday.
I love the remoteness, peace and quiet.
The picturesque sunsets and sunrises, the water, the air, the sand, the people are so idyllic.
I’ve also heard a lot of stories about Savusavu but have never been there.
So Savusavu is definitely on the top of my bucket list and another trip to Taveuni.
